On Thursday Oct. 23, students and faculty gathered in the gym to kick off homecoming week with a pep rally. Students participated in numerous exciting games, honoring of athletes, and showcases of dances and performances.
“So we usually only do hip-hop at pep rallies, but my favorite one that we’ve done was this year’s because we have a lot of good moves in our dance. I really like being able to go through that with my team, because you get to bond more and feel how we dance together, and get closer,” said Petra Escobedo (8).
The pep rally started with The Jr. Sundancers, who performed at the the pep rally, feels strongly about performing. After they performed the cheer team showed us one of their outstanding performances filled with energy, skill, and lots of cool tricks.
“I am sad this is one of my last pep rallies in middle school because it introduced football, and told everyone who was on the team. I also got to stand up for the last time to play one of my favorite sports,” said Christian Diaz (8). “At the pep rally, everyone gets active and cheers for everyone when someone goes up. They are all cheering, happy, and excited. I liked how I was called up and that they brought down some high schoolers so we could play some games.”
Then all the teams for fall were announced with their players and achievements of the teams. We got to honor all of the athletes, and it was a special time for students and coaches. It can also be a sad and memorable time for eighth graders, because it is their last year being recognized at the middle school. After the sports were announced they brought the seniors on the football team. They played games with the middle schoolers and it was a very fun experience for the younger kids. They played games with balloons and stacked boxes on each other.
“I love that pep rallies are a Gulliver tradition. They have been around for as long as I can remember and it’s fun to see everyone spirited and kind of having one goal,” said activities director Renee Sasso.
