Spirit week started Friday Oct. 24 and went through Friday Oct.31, students and faculty dressed up for each day according to theme. The days followed dressing up in Raider pride, miss-match, grade level colors, dressed to unimpress, wearing clothes that match their favorite music genre or artist, and finally dressing up for Halloween.
Starting Monday Oct. 27, students dressed up in mismatched clothes, like different shoes and socks. On Tuesday Oct. 28, students dressed up in their grade level color for color wars. Fifth grade students wore yellow. Sixth grade students wore green, seventh grade students wore purple and eighth grade students wore red. On Wednesday Oct. 29, students dressed to unimpress, wearing clothes that don’t follow fashion rules and dressed terribly terrific. On Thursday, Oct. 30, students dressed up as their music genre or artist. On Friday Oct. 31, students and faculty dressed up in their Halloween costumes.
“I’m very excited to see how everyone else dresses up for Spirit Week,” said Viola Arellano Geddes (8).
Many students love to use the opportunity of spirit week to wear the clothes of their desire and dress comfortably.
For fifth graders this was their first Homecoming Spirit Week as middle schoolers, where they got to see the transition between middle school and lower school.
“I feel really excited and I am excited about how I am going to dress up on Halloween and what I am going to be.” said Jose Estrella (5).
However, for the eighth graders this was their last Homecoming Spirit Week.
“I feel bittersweet about it because I’m happy that I’m going to high school next year and that middle school’s been really fun. But I’m also sad that it’s my last year in middle school because I’ve been on this campus for my entire life,” said Alejandra Ortega Ganen.
Faculty and students are always excited for Homecoming Spirit Week and the activities that come with it.
“I do love spirit week, I love that it’s a Gulliver tradition and it’s especially this one that leads up to Halloween because Halloween is definitely the biggest ‘holiday’ that we celebrate here. I love seeing everyone dressed up. I think it not only shows school spirit and gives Gulliver a new sense of energy, but I also think it allows us to see everyone’s personal style a little bit since day to day you’re always in uniform. I also try to pick dress up days that I know there’s something that everyone can be comfortable doing, because not everyone is comfortable going all out but everyone can find something in their closet that matches each day,” said activities director Renee Sasso.
