Five sixth graders started Matchaliccious, a community service business where they make matcha and deliver it to others homes. The five girls, Addison Vento, Bianca Pereyra, Braelin Herrholz, Sydney Goldstein and Mia Felzen started Matchaliccious to raise money for PAWS4You, a rescue organization that helps foster dogs. Even though they are doing this for community service, they are also working to have fun with their friends while doing something for the community. They make the matcha outside of school in many different flavors and versions.
“We all wanted more community service hours, but we wanted to do something rare and fun. We all came up with the idea to start selling matcha for a charity and now all enjoy working together doing this,” said Pereyra.
On weekends, they all meet up at a house and fulfill roles to make the business run smoothly. They have interesting flavors such as a strawberry matcha. They post on Instagram and Tiktok to inform the community. On instagram they make videos of them making different types of matcha. They have 57 followers and sell it for $3.00 each. They also need to be able to transfer the matcha to other houses who purchase it. This takes responsibility and collaboration to be able to complete this process. They all work together to get things done.
“We normally all have different roles when preparing the matcha. One person will bring the cups, another person will bring the matcha powder. We then will all go to each other’s houses and make it together,” said Herrholz.
The girls have worked hard and have made some money so far. They hope to continue working even harder and together to make this business successful. They are all very dedicated and love making matcha. This job is hard but they never give up and want to reach their business goals.
“When we did it a couple of days ago and we made money and we are going to turn these hours in for community service. We hope it is going to become a big business and become successful,” said Goldstein.
