From skiing down the slopes to spending time on the beaches, students made new memories over their week off to last a lifetime. Deep under water in the Bahamas, eighth grader Gavin Havenick saw lots of fish and large crabs on a trip to celebrate his brother’s twelfth birthday.
“I went scuba diving with my little brother and I saw a lot of underwater creatures. My family and I got to spend a lot of quality time together which made me very happy. I made memories that will last a lifetime. This trip overall was super fun and I enjoyed ski week,” Havenick said.
Exploring somewhere new, sixth grader Max Shah went to the beautiful, white mountains of Austria. The skiing conditions were great with lots of soft, powdery snow, but the views on the horizon put the trip on top.
“I went to Austria and got to experience something I have never experienced before. This trip was awesome, because I love skiing. With all the fun there was also something I didn’t expect, the people were very mean, cutting me off on all the slopes and the WiFi was not great,” said Shah.

While some students traveled, others spent the week relaxing in Miami. Students kept busy spending time with family or just hanging out. Eighth grader Leo Castro Alves had a blast spending time with extended family members and friends.
“I stayed in Miami. I had a lot of family gatherings and my family who visited me from New York were with us. I stayed home and played games with my friends,” Castro Alves said.
Some students used their free time in service of others less fortunate. Eighth grader Vincent Damian and his family visited the Dominican Republic both as a tourist and as a volunteer.
“I visited this organization I worked with for my MYP project in the Dominican Republic and spent time with them during the day. My family and I ate a lot of good food such as empanadas and some drinks that they had and we went to the beach. We ate this nearby place for pizza which was my favorite, so delicious,” said Damian.”I had a great time in the Dominican Republic trying new things and helping out their community.”
