On March 17, Day of AI introduced faculty and students to Artificial Intelligence. The Engineering Department prepared by setting up stations to teach all the different ways we can use AI safely and effectively in and out of school and it was a fun break from school work. Students came into the activity excited to learn more about this subject and it was eye opening to learn about our future technology. Learning about all the tools of the future gives students a new understanding and perspective of how to use AI to help them academically.
“My favorite thing is that we are able to show students a little bit of all the different tools that we have available for AI, and that way they can experience them before they taste them at school next year,” Engineering department chair Cristina Telepman said.
Day of AI is an important day for students and teachers to learn about and use different types of AI tools. She mentions how AI methods are being introduced to Gulliver in upcoming years using Google AI called Gemini and NotebookLM because it is the most educational and supportive to students that are still growing academically. These resources are helpful on a daily basis and help students with assignments.
“I enjoy AI day because it is really interesting to see how much AI contributes to our daily life,” eighth grader Silvana Holschneider Gamboa said.
The stations taught middle schoolers the true meaning of Artificial Intelligence. Students realized the importance of using AI in our daily lives. They also learned how to properly use AI when it comes to doing school work. This was done because Gulliver is planning on letting students use AI sources for educational school reasons.
“I enjoyed the robot dog because we were able to make it do cool tricks on the remote,” Oliver Ozar (8) said.
Students enjoyed learning about the “robot dog”, they got the opportunity to control the dog and ask questions about how it was made. Many people described this station as their favorite one because it was a fascinating experience to learn about and interact with the robot dog.
