Eighth grader Kenzie Miller slid down the sandy dunes of Peru during winter break.
Winter break was filled with lots of fun and exciting excursions from many people. Gulliver staff, faculty and students traveled around the world, visiting someplace new or revisiting an old memory. Each person had their own experience visiting the lively world around them. Though many people left the country and had lots of fun, some people had just as much fun at home, visiting and exploring Miami or hanging with family. History teacher Alexandra Bass, stayed in Miami to spend quality time with her mom and sister who live out of town. She spent her time catching up on gossip and news.
“I will be staying home and spending time with my sister, she’ll be coming into town for the holidays from California,” Bass said.
Even though it was winter break, and in other places it is too cold to go on a cruise, here in Miami, summer is all year round. Math teacher and volleyball coach Jose Rioseco went on a cruise called Radiance Of The Seas over winter break with his family.
“I am going on a cruise with my family for the new year. We are going to the Bahamas and one of their private islands,” Rioseco said.
As he enjoyed his five day trip he stayed there for New Year’s, enjoying sights on the cruise. The boat had many things to do, there were things like waterslides, rock climbing, karaoke, restaurants, trivia games and more. He especially enjoyed New Year’s eve when he was sitting in a restaurant watching the UM vs Ohio State football game. He said that he was one of the few UM fans in the area and was excited for the UM to dominate.
Many students also traveled to many fun and unique places around the world. Eighth grader Kenzie Miller traveled to Peru and saw one the seven wonders of the world; Machu Picchu. She went sand boarding down sand dunes and climbed to the top of Machu Picchu with her family. She enjoyed the beautiful sights of Peru and found her new favorite vacation spot.
“Over winter break I am going all over Peru and I am going to go to places like Machu Picchu and sandskiing and sand boarding,” Miller said.
