Since he was five years old, eighth grader Christopher Domenech has grown up around up and coming baseball greats like alumna George Lombard, Jr, a round-one pick for the New York Yankees in the 2023 draft. But when Domenech takes the field, it’s his turn to carve his own legacy in the sport.
“My older cousins and my friends got drafted in the first round, and it inspired me,” Domenech said.
Rather than feeling pressured, he has embraced the opportunity to train alongside and learn from successful players. Domenech’s preparation is both mental and physical.
“My dad and coach both help me prepare,” Domenech said. “I pray, and my personal trainer tells me workouts to do so I’m not tight.”
This routine helps him stay number one in his own games, where he is often playing against players years older than him. As a member of the USA youth team, Domenech competes at a high level regularly.

“I am a select festival player,” Domenech said. “We were selected to play 36 man roster. My whole life I have played with kids older than me, so they are obviously stronger physically and mentally.”
Team USA gave Domenech the opportunity to play with elders he looks up to. He honors a special person in his life at every game.
“I have number 5,” Domenech said. “I like this number because my uncle passed away, and my dad wants me to honor him while I play.”
He trains 4-6 hours a day for his school team and outside team. Baseball coach Isaac Tijerino, who has been coaching Domenech since sixth grade, credits him for having ‘raw talent’ and being ‘fundamentally sound’.
“His power really stands out on the field; he’s a very strong kid,” Tijerino said. “When he’s up to bat and he hits the ball, he hits it pretty hard. His knowledge of the game– he has a very high IQ of the game.”
In his last year of middle school, Domenech strives to further his baseball career, heightening his dedication and his talent to achieve his dreams.
“Some of my long term goals after high school are to go D1 or get drafted after high school to fulfill my dreams,” Domenech said. “I feel very passionate about it, and I want to live the skill of the game to the best potential that I possibly can.”
